Bushidō Code
Integrity, respect, courage, honor, compassion, honesty & sincerity, and duty & loyalty
Bushidō, often referred to as “the way of the warrior,” is a code of moral principles that guided the samurai class of Japan. This code developed during the Edo period (1603-1868) as the samurai transitioned from warriors to members of the ruling class. Bushidō emphasizes virtues such as loyalty, honor, and discipline, which were integral to the samurai’s way of life. These principles not only dictated their behavior in battle but also shaped their interactions within society, promoting a life of integrity and respect.
Throughout history, the Bushidō code has evolved, reflecting the changing roles of the samurai in Japanese society. In contemporary Japan, the influence of Bushidō extends beyond martial arts, permeating modern business practices, ethics, and social conduct. The enduring legacy of Bushidō continues to inspire people worldwide, serving as a reminder of the timeless values of courage, respect, and self-discipline.
